SEM Arnaud de Viviès met with the President of the Lya Foundation, Dr. Kadio-Morokro and his team, to discuss the ongoing partnership between Hôpital St Jean-Baptiste and this institution in the fight against sickle-cell anemia, in particular assistance and contribution to the management of this disease, which affects some 120 million people, i.e. around 5% of the world’s population, and almost 400,000 children born in Africa. The prevalence of sickle cell trait averages 15 to 30% in West Africa, and in Côte d’Ivoire, 6,000 new cases are detected at birth every year, 60 to 70% of whom do not reach the age of 5 without effective treatment.
