The Order of Malta has been active in the Ivory Coast for nearly fifty years. It is thanks to the Blohorn family, who settled there after the Second World War, in association with the French Hospitallers of the Order of Malta, that a large number of dispensaries were created and supported throughout the country. At present, there is a hospital with nearly one hundred beds, the Saint Jean Baptiste Hospital in Bodo, and seventeen dispensaries which are managed or supported by the Ordre de Malte France, based in Paris, and by a local association, the Association “Amis de l’Ordre de Malte en Côte d’Ivoire”, whose headquarters are in Abidjan.
