Visit to the Nuncio in Ivory Coast

Visit to the Nuncio in Ivory Coast
11/01/2021

A meeting was held on January 11 with Archbishop Paolo BORGIA, Apostolic Nuncio and chaplain of the Order, who presented his credentials on January 3, 2020, succeeding Bishop Joseph SPITERI, who left for Lebanon in March 2018.

The question was raised of the necessary complementarity between the Saint Joseph Moscati hospital, managed by the Holy See, in Yamoussoukro, and the Saint John the Baptist hospital, both of which are private confessional structures, with state personnel.

The Nuncio spoke of the possibility of a visit to St. John the Baptist by a person in charge of the Bambino Gesu hospital in Rome, with which the Order of Malta has a partnership.

The withdrawal of the Villaregia congregation from the St. John Eudes dispensary in Yopougon was also discussed. This center is supported by the French association of the Order of Malta and by the Friends of the Order of Malta in Côte d’Ivoire, and a dialogue with this congregation on its withdrawal could be facilitated by the Nunciature.
