Working session with the UNFPA representation in Abidjan

Fonds Nations Unies Population
15/12/2019

A working session was held on Thursday, December 5, 2019, in the presence of Mr. Caspar Peek, UNFPA Representative in Côte d’Ivoire. Discussions focused on the opportunity for a partnership between the Ordre de Malte France and this organization, on issues of Mother-Child health, particularly on the management of obstetric fistula treatment at St Jean-Baptiste Hospital.

The areas of interest to be explored would consist of taking charge of complex cases, based on training missions by the Order of Malta’s experts, to supplement the training already provided to surgeons in Côte d’Ivoire in various hospitals.

Such a partnership already exists in Madagascar, at the Pavillon Ste Fleur, managed by the Order of Malta France, and would enhance the value of the St Jean Baptiste hospital in a region affected by this disease. A meeting has already taken place, allowing for the development of ongoing studies.
